The Department of Computer Science and Engineering in the College of Arts and Sciences at North Central College invites applications for a tenure-track position in computer science and engineering, beginning August 2022. A PhD in computer science, computer engineering, or a closely related field in computing is required, and teaching experience in computer science/engineering is strongly desired. ABDs within one year of degree completion will be considered. Depending on the candidate's qualifications, we anticipate appointment at the rank of assistant or associate professor.
We are especially interested in applicants with expertise in database systems, machine learning/data mining, software engineering, human computer interaction or theoretical computing. We are not interested in candidates whose primary research is in networking or security. In addition to their area of specialization, primary teaching responsibilities will center on core computer science and/or computer engineering courses. Candidates should have demonstrated potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching and mentoring, and must be committed to ongoing scholarship while actively engaging undergraduates. Our teaching load is 5 courses per year with a course reduction during the first year. We strongly believe in work-life balance and a non-competitive, collaborative work environment. North Central College values diversity and is committed to social justice, equity and inclusiveness. Experience working with diverse student populations and communities will be weighed in the candidate's favor.
