THE POSITION

Under the direction of the Principal, assists with the administration and coordination of a high school. In addition to coordinating all aspects of the athletic programs at a comprehensive high school, this administrative position also includes instructional supervision and evaluation responsibilities.

RESPONSIBLE TO:            Principal

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties listed are typical, but not exclusive.

• Assists the principal in the overall administration of the school and assumes leadership of the school in the absence of the principal.
• Relates to students with mutual respect while carrying out a positive and effective discipline policy.
• Supervises full and part-time athletic staff including shared responsibility for hiring, disciplining or termination decisions and full responsibility for training, mentoring and evaluating teachers and coaches, both Certificated and Classified.

• Directs and provides oversight for all athletic programs and activities and supervises the control, issuance and maintenance of athletic equipment and facilities.

• Maintains a commitment to ongoing growth in self and others, supporting and participating in District and site professional growth programs.

• Monitors strict observances of equality of opportunity in boy’s and girl’s athletics by keeping informed of legal requirements and consulting with school and District staff regarding compliance with the law to initiate and coordinate the certification of academic and health eligibility of all student-athletes.

• Builds strong relationships and collaborates with parent support groups and Foundations.
• Works with coaches to determine scheduling of games and practices to include the allocation of time for a field, court, or weight room.
• Demonstrates a positive attitude toward job and remains a flexible and an innovative team builder.
• Has knowledge of local policies, state and federal laws relating to minors.
• Assists with emergency situations and cooperation with staff and public safety agencies.
• Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as the principal may request.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required:   Experience with Effective Teaching/Clinical Supervision

                  Exceptional written and oral communication skills

Credential:      Valid California Administrative Credential

Education:       Masters Degree or higher

Experience:     Successful instructional and/or leadership experience at the secondary level; knowledge of current instructional practices.  Successful varsity coaching experience.
