Position Summary:
The Director leads the Curriculum and Assessment Office in providing support to the instructional deans, faculty and staff for curriculum development, review, assessment, and articulation activities. The director is responsible for providing leadership, guidance and coordination for curriculum development processes, course and program development, monitoring curriculum review cycles, developing and maintaining institutional curriculum files on the college’s information system, disseminating curriculum and articulation information, monitoring program advisory committee activity, and supporting the development of articulation and transfer agreements with universities and school districts. The Director supervises and evaluates the office staff, which includes the Curriculum Analyst, the Curriculum Secretary, Transfer and Articulation Coordinator and the Instructional Operations Analyst.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist the Executive Vice President of Instruction and the deans in the development and implementation of college-wide curriculum and assessment-related policies, processes and planning.
• Recommend policies and develop procedures for curriculum planning and other curriculum and assessment-related issues.
• Monitor the implementation of curriculum policies.
• Provide leadership and guidance for professional development opportunities for faculty and staff relating to curriculum and assessment.
• Provide ongoing faculty training related to Curriculum & Assessment activities.
• Review all courses and programs to ensure that curricula are developed using sound instructional and learning design principles.
• Review all courses and programs to ensure that outcomes are appropriate, and appropriate assessment strategies are selected.
• Provide support to faculty and deans in developing new courses and programs, modifying existing courses and programs, and phasing out programs.
• Oversee the faculty and Transfer and Articulation Coordinator in developing articulation agreements with High School and four-year colleges/universities.
• Supervise the development and maintenance of online curriculum and assessment and articulation data systems.
• Direct the work of the Curriculum Analyst, Curriculum Secretary, Transfer and Articulation Coordinator and the Instructional Operations Analyst.
• Facilitate and monitor the program assessment cycle and the syllabus review cycle including Perkins funded programs and Program Review of Occupational Programs (PROE).
• Report academic program changes and update the PROE review schedule to the Michigan Department of Education annually.
• Disseminate curriculum information to college offices such as Admissions and Counseling.
• Develop and update curriculum information pieces in the college catalog and provide updated course and program information to the catalog and College website.
• Provide curricular data, research and analysis for decision making in curriculum related matters as requested.
• Direct and coordinate the annual cycle of activities of the Curriculum Office
• Supervise the day-to-day activities of the Curriculum Office staff including their annual performance reviews, and take disciplinary action when necessary.
• Develop and manage the budget for the curriculum office.
• Act as a liaison for Curriculum and Assessment Office.
• Monitor and facilitate the assessment of General Education.
• Fulfill all other duties as requested by the Executive Vice President for Instruction.
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Master’s degree in education or a related field, such as instructional design.
• Equivalent of three (3) to five (5) years full-time work experience at the college or university level
• Experience in curriculum development (both program and course) at the postsecondary level.
• Experience applying learning and instructional design theories and principles.
• Knowledge of postsecondary curriculum purpose and design, and curriculum development processes.
• Ability to exhibit leadership, initiative, enthusiasm and collaboration with faculty and staff in the execution of the responsibilities of the position.
• Strong analytical and technical writing skills.
• Ability to manage a department budget.
• Ability to facilitate work teams and committees.
• Excellent interpersonal skills for effective regular contact with full- and part-time faculty in completion of job duties.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
• Doctorate.
• At least one (1) year teaching experience at the college level.
• Knowledge of community college curriculum models.
• Knowledge of and experience working with database and spreadsheet software.
• Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy and developing and implementing new Strategies and procedures.
• At least one (1) year of administrative experience, including staff supervision.
