Serves as educational and community leader and chief administrator of the assigned 9-12 school with coordination of all school objectives, the instructional program, department chairpeople, teacher and staff assignments and evaluations; complex student activities; school plant operations and maintenance; school's attendance area.
The Principal 9-12 is expected both to communicate and listen so that the goals of the school reflect the needs and interests of the school's attendance area which it serves. The Comprehensive High School Principal is expected to know the parents and community and interpret it to the District administrators in an accurate and valid manner.
The older ages of the students and the larger size of the school make this a more complex assignment than either the Continuation High School Principal, Middle School Principal or Elementary Principal. Contributing to this assignment is the greater number of students' co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Plans, organizes, controls and directs instructional activities, extra-curricular events, special programs and plant operations at a District comprehensive high school; confers with District Office personnel regarding staff programs, students, finances and legal requirements; implements and modifies the school's mission, goals, objectives and programs as needed. Interviews, selects, directs, evaluates and supervises certificated and classified personnel; assigns faculty and staff as appropriate to meet school objectives. E
Directs and participates in a planned program of classroom visitations and observations; recommends discipline, reassignment or termination action as appropriate; documents evidence of substandard performance. E
Enforces applicable State and District codes, policies and laws; administers District and school site discipline policies and safety programs. E
Plans and directs the business operations of the school; develops and administers site budgets; assures proper allocation of funds for instructional and non-instructional equipment and materials. E
Directs the evaluation and revision of curricular and instructional programs in cooperation with appropriate District administrators; communicates with teachers to assure instructional programs meet student needs and District requirements. E
Establishes, coordinates and maintains communications with community and parent groups, City officials, PTA representatives and law enforcement officials. E
Prepares and writes correspondence, bulletins and other communications on behalf of the school; arranges for school-level public relations and publicity for special events and achievements as appropriate. E
Plans, implements, directs and evaluates instructional and categorical programs in accordance with State and Federal laws, District regulations and other specially-funded program requirements. E
Assures the health, safety and welfare of students; oversees attendance, behavior management, counseling, guidance and other support services. E
Coordinates the maintenance operations of the school plant, assures proper management, maintenance and inventory of materials, equipment, buildings and grounds. E
Attends, conducts and chairs a variety of meetings with faculty, parents and community representatives; coordinates and meets with school site advisory groups; conducts student/parent appeals; responds to and resolves parent, student and staff complaints; represents the school at Board, District and community functions. E
Directs the preparation and maintenance of a variety of District, County, State and Federally-mandated records and reports regarding student attendance, welfare, discipline, safety, academic achievement and certification for graduation. E
Performs related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Proper Secondary Administration, Standard Supervision, Ryan Administration, or equivalent credential.
Five (5) years of teaching experience, preferably at the 9-12 grade level.
Previous experience as a Principal is DESIRED.
Demonstrated leadership and organizational abilities at high school level.
Meet District standards for physical and mental health.
Two (2) years experience as Assistant Principal-High School.
