Michigan State University actively promotes a dynamic research and learning environment in which qualified individuals of differing perspectives and cultural backgrounds pursue academic goals with mutual respect and shared inquiry.
The Department of Psychology at Michigan State University (MSU) is seeking to recruit a faculty member with expertise in racial/ethnic health disparities and programmatic efforts to reduce such disparities for a tenure system appointment at the assistant professor level starting in Fall of 2023. The ideal candidate will have established a strong program of visible research, a history of (or clear potential for) external funding, and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in a) undergraduate and graduate teaching, and b) diversity, equity, and inclusion.
We are particularly interested in applicants with substantive expertise in addiction, depression, and health psychology as they relate to diverse populations as well as applicants with expertise in the assessment of mental health, physical health, and well-being across diverse groups. Quantitative expertise in multilevel modeling and program evaluation is also desired. However, the ideal candidate may well have substantive and methodological interests related to mental and physical health disparities outside of those listed.
The candidate recruited for this position would join an active, intellectually diverse, and productive Department of Psychology and be expected to affiliate with one or more of the department’s six PhD training focal areas (Behavioral Neuroscience, Clinical Science, Cognition and Cognitive Science, Ecological/Community Psychology, Organizational Psychology, Social Personality), based upon expertise and interest. This open position is supported by the MSU Provost’s 1855 Professorships initiative that is aligned with the university’s diversity, equity, and inclusion strategic plan and seeks to “…elevate the academic quality and reputation at MSU.” The new faculty member will be expected to contribute to the multidisciplinary, “One Health” cluster of quantitatively oriented researchers who study sources of physical and mental health disparities and evaluate programs and policies intended to reduce them.
