The Helendale School District Board of Education invites highly qualified educational leaders with strong instructional, leadership and people skills to apply for the position of Superintendent to follow a long serving superintendent who is retiring.
The Board of Trustees of the Helendale School District intends to offer the successful candidate a multi-year contract. The salary is competitive and commensurate with the training and experience of the successful candidate.
Qualifications
Professional Preparation
Required: An earned Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university related to the field of education.
Desirable: Current California Administrative Credential. Experience serving as a superintendent or cabinet level district administrator; background as a school administrator and/or teacher.
Experience
Demonstrated ability to provide effective visionary leadership and strategic planning to focus human and material resources towards outstanding quality education for students.
Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining a productive board/superintendent leadership team with open two-way communication.
Record of maintaining a high level of visibility at school sites, class rooms, and school and community events.
Record of empowering, modeling and coaching administrators to fulfill their areas of responsibility while holding them accountable for showing results.
Record of involvement in positive and cooperative labor relations.
Demonstrated success in utilizing community resources to support the instructional program.
Demonstrated success in maintaining district solvency and in creative approaches to financing, planning and implementing the development and maintenance of school facilities.
Demonstrated successful experience in establishing career and college pathways.
Professional Characteristics
Clear demonstration of honesty, integrity, openness and collaboration.
Ability to communicate in a straightforward and sensitive manner with all members of the educational community. Comfortable using all forms of communication including social media.

Selection Process
The Board of Trustees of the Helendale School District has requested the assistance of the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools office in its search for a superintendent as the current long serving superintendent is retiring. Richard Bray and Jan Gonzales have been assigned to serve as Search Advisors. Applications that are complete and timely received will be screened and reference checked by a committee of professionals.
Candidates with the highest rankings will be interviewed by the Governing Board. Prior to final selection a committee of the Board may conduct a community visit for the final candidate.
Board interviews are tentatively scheduled for Saturday, April 15, 2023.
Disqualifications
Any direct contact by an applicant with individual members of the Helendale School District Board of Trustees in an attempt to influence the decision-making process will be considered a breach of professional ethics and will disqualify the applicant from candidacy for the position.
Internal Helendale candidates do NOT need a letter of recommendation from a Helendale Board Member, nor should they ask for one. Contacting current Helendale Board Members for any search related reason by candidates will be viewed as a breach of professional ethics and will result in disqualification for internal and external candidates.

Helendale has a five-member Board of Trustees who oversee over 1,100 students in district schools. There are four schools the Superintendent directly supervises. The district also oversees four independent charter schools that are within San Bernardino County or adjoining counties.
