Salary Details:

General Duties:
The director of special education coordinates the district's special education program and English Learner programs.
Job Goal:
To maintain programs with high professional standards for special education and/or English Learner students that support their academic achievement and special needs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Plans, implements, administers, and supervises programs for identified special education
Determines need, through appropriate surveys and research methodologies, for special services and
Establishes objectives, goals, guidelines, policies, and procedures, in compliance with federal and state law, for special
Organizes and directs district-wide special education in-service
Chairs, or appoints designee to chair all district-level Individual Education Plan
Assigns pupils to special programs and makes all necessary arrangements for
Prepares reports for the Lakeport Unified Board of Education, the Lake County Office of Education, the State Department of Education, and various community
Provides supplies, materials, and equipment for all special
Distributes pertinent information and materials to be used by administrators, teachers, parents, and guidance
Participates in the process of hiring special education
Supervises designated special education personnel and participates in the evaluation
Assists teachers, psychologists, and the behavior specialist in developing and applying prescriptive teaching
Counsels with special education pupils and/or their parents and makes appropriate referrals to other agencies and services as indicated by the needs of the
Prepares and administers special education budgets in accordance with state regulations and district
Evaluates, with assistance of local, county, and state personnel, all special education programs.
Organizes and conducts meetings for parents of students enrolled in special education programs.
Initiates and coordinates efforts to acquaint the entire certificated staff with the needs of children in special education programs to facilitate the contact of these children with the regular
Serves on local, county and state committees and/or advisory boards of agencies in the field of special
Participates in professional organizations in the field of special
Serves as the superintendent's designee in the Fair Hearing
Coordinates the district’s English Learner program and facilitates the District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC).
Supervises and coordinates the English Learner state required assessments.
Coordinates with Migrant Education and maintains required documentation and information.
Works cooperatively with all other sites, departments and administration for the purpose of maintaining alignment, communication, and coordination of
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with parents, community members, outside agency personnel and other interested school stakeholders for the purpose of developing positive
Responsible for a clean, safe environment and works collaboratively with the director of maintenance, operations and transportation to insure maintenance of the facilities and
Assists with the collection of Medi-Cal billing and assures accuracy and completeness of student enrollment data.
Coordinates with nursing staff to assure consistency and completeness of student enrollment data including follow up on student immunizations, health data and missing information.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to see for purposes of reading policies and printed material. Ability to understand speech at normal levels in person or on the telephone. Ability to communicate so others will be able to understand a normal conversation in person or on the telephone. Ability to operate necessary equipment including computers and computer software with dexterity. Ability to drive a vehicle to conduct work. Ability to occasionally lift/carry supplies, materials and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. Ability to demonstrate mental acuity in the performance of job related duties and interactions with students and adults.
Working Conditions:
Public school work environment subject to sitting at a desk or standing for long periods of time, bending and crouching, kneeling at files, pushing/pulling file drawers, equipment and supplies, reaching in all directions and working at a computer or other standard school equipment.
Qualifications:
Credential: Valid California Education Specialist credential, Mild/Moderate or Moderate/Severe.
Education: Bachelor's degree; Master's degree preferred; learning management systems, testing and evaluation, and fiscal management
Experience: Special education, counseling other district program supervision responsibilities; administrative experience preferred; bilingual ability
Salary:
Placement on the Certificated Director Salary Schedule. All holidays and sick leave as required by the Education Code.

Lakeport Unified School District is comprised of Lakeport Elementary School (grades K-3); Terrace Middle School (grades 4-8); Clear Lake High School (grades 9-12); Natural Continuation High School (grades 10- 12); Lakeport Community Day School (grades 6-10); and Lakeport Alternative School (grades K-12). All of the schools have the advantage of being grouped together with the district office on forty-five acres at the north end of town. District student enrollment is 1350.
