PRINCIPAL, ELEMENTARY
I. GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Principal, Elementary is responsible for the administration of all facets of the school’s educational program directed toward the optimal educational development of each individual student. The principal shall plan, develop, and implement instructional goals and objectives, and procedures for evaluating program effectiveness; plan, develop, and conduct staff development and staff training programs and activities; plan and conduct public and community relations programs.
This position reports to the Assistant Superintendent, Educational Services and/or Director, Elementary, Education, Equity, and Access.
II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. Organize, supervise, implement, and evaluate all educational programs at the school site in accordance with district wide goals, instructional priorities and State/Federal standards and guidelines.
B. Use assessment data to work with teachers to identify, develop and implement differentiated instructional strategies and professional development initiatives that will promote improved student achievement for ALL children.
C. Screen, select, direct and evaluate performance of certificated and classified staff members.
D. Create interdependent culture necessary to support successful Professional Learning Communities.
E. Accountable for achieving district goals, vision and mission.
F. Work with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement a comprehensive school safety plan.
G. Directing and overseeing the development and implementation of the school’s Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA).
H. Provide a safe and orderly environment for staff and students and establish and maintain an effective learning climate in the school.
I. Develop and monitor multiple budgets and resources, including grants, fundraising and student body accounts.
J. Demonstrate knowledge, understanding and appreciation for elementary school students, program and instructional standards.
K. Relate to students with mutual respect while carrying out a positive and effective discipline policy.
L. Ongoing evaluation of educational programs and their effectiveness.
M. Strategically manage all school site budgets in order to maximize effective utilization of all fiscal resources.
N. Attend all required District level meetings that involve elementary principals.
O. Maintain a commitment to ongoing growth in self by participating in District and site Professional development programs.
P. Manage certificated and classified contracts at site level.
Q. Have knowledge of local policies, state and federal laws relating to minors.
R. Keep the Superintendent and Cabinet informed of the school's activities and high-profile issues.
S. Other duties as assigned.
III. QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Minimum:

Curriculum development, instructional program delivery strategies and program supervision.
Assessment and evaluation techniques utilized to appraise program quality and personnel performance.
Human relations strategies, conflict resolution strategies, team building techniques, and collaborative decision-making.
Counseling, guidance and discipline techniques.
Education Code, Board Policies, and collective bargaining agreements.
District, State, and Federal policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
Current research related to instruction and learning.
Budget planning, development, and monitoring.
Implementation of innovation and change.
Theory and practice in special education programming, including inclusion, discipline, IEP development and implementation.
D. License/Credential/Certification:
Valid California Administrative Services Credential or Certificate of Eligibility
Valid California Clear Teaching Credential
Valid EL Authorization, CLAD or BCLAD
Valid California Driver License
CBEST/CSET or other basic skills requirement
First Aid and CPR (desirable)
E. Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university of higher learning
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university of higher learning
F. Experience:
Four (4) years of successful teaching experience (elementary level preferred)
Successful experience as an administrator at the site level (preferred)
G. Medical Required:
Tuberculosis Test
IV. PHYSICAL, MENTAL and ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:
A. Physical:
Speech intelligibility in quiet; speech intelligibility in noise; sound localization; sitting; walking; standing; reaching; and bending; as needed throughout the day; fine coordination; wrist/arm motion; and grasping/holding; vision to see and read a variety of reports and materials; occasionally lift 1-15 lbs.; occasionally carry/push 1-15 lbs.; occasionally carry 1-15 lbs.; and dexterity to operate instructional and office equipment.

Office environment; frequently work outside, evenings and/or variable hours; traveling from site to site as required.

VI. CERTIFICATED MANAGEMENT SALARY RANGE 20:
$153,156 – $162,576
$1,000 Stipend per year for Ph.D. or Ed.D. Degree
