West Covina Unified School District is seeking a Coordinator II- Special Education:
Brief Description of Position:
Under the direction of the assigned supervisor(s)/administrator(s), assists with the monitoring, direction, evaluation, supervision, and coordination of the District’s special education program and related services.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides leadership to assigned program segments, school and district administrators, and parents
Maintains and enforces school and district rules/policies
Implements State and District guidelines and policy relative to Special Education
Assists in the fiscal management of the District Special Education programs and schools
Represents the District and allocated District resources through the IEP process
Supervises and evaluates designated certificated and classified personnel
Assist in the recruitment, selection, retention, and evaluation of staff
Assists the Director – Special Education and school administrators in the supervision and evaluation of certificated personnel
Assists the Director – Special Education in the development of school speech/language, adapted physical education, occupational therapists, and psychologist schedules and special assignments
Assists with the development and implementation of District procedures and facilitates the resolution of complaints
Assists administrators in coordinating school Special Education programs
Coordinates standardized testing for students with special needs and provides training to Special Education teachers on test administration procedures
Conferences with teachers and parents concerning problems of Special Education student adjustment and/or attendance to ensure student success in school and make appropriate referrals for specialized services
Assists the Director in developing, planning, and training staff during State reviews
Assist schools in curriculum development, curriculum implementation, and instructional improvement for Special Education programs
Plans and facilitates segment meetings for articulation of Early Intervention, elementary, middle, and high school Special Education programs
Develops, plans, and provides for professional development and parent education
Serves as the liaison between State agencies to District Special Education
Coordinates interagency, non-public school/agencies, and LACOE programs
Consults with attorneys and advocates regarding District policies and procedures
May represent the District at County and/or SELPA Meetings
Promotes staff and community relationships that are in the best interest of the students and school
Organizes, implements, and supervises extended school year programs for Special Education students
Provides supervision to the Early Intervention Program including enrollment, curriculum, personnel, and professional development
Continuation of responsibilities related to IEP’s, monitoring special student cases, and parent concerns
Assist the Director in program operations, including making recommendations for staffing and budget, and developing Special Education procedures and guidelines
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education/Qualifications
Appropriate credential with authorization in special education, clinical services, health services, or school psychologist credential
Master’s Degree, advanced course work in special education or one or more areas of handicapping conditions
Five (5) years of public school experience as a teacher in special and/or general education
Appropriate Administrative Credential authorizing service at the K-12 level, highly desirable
Two (2) years of site-level administrative experience in general and/or special education, with district-level experience highly desirable
