San Bruno Park is a linguistically and culturally diverse school district in the San Francisco Bay Area. Located at the northern tip of Silicon Valley and just 10 miles south of San Francisco, this small preschool to grade 8 district is the home to five elementary schools and one middle school. Home to YouTube, Walmart.com and numerous other businesses, the city is a hub for tech and innovation. The city is geographically diverse, ranging from the urban flatlands to the central green space of the San Bruno City Park to the grand sweeping Bay vistas from the highest hilltops of the community. Through the generous support of the San Bruno community, the district is the recipient of a recent facilities bond to rebuild aging infrastructure. The district maintains a strong financial position as a result of new and increasing revenue sources. The San Bruno Park Board of Trustees recently approved a 5% raise plus additional benefits adding on to a previous 9.5% raise over two years for all educators in the district demonstrating its commitment to attract and retain talented staff across the district. With new leadership, San Bruno Park School District is moving forward to educate all children equitably.
The School
Parkside Middle School is a comprehensive middle school serving grades six to eight. The only middle school in the city, Parkside plays a vital role as a hub of the community. With a diverse and inspiring study body, the school hosts a number of engaging programs for students. Supported by a generous grant from the San Bruno Education Foundation, the school has built out a robust music program aimed at serving a large number of students, especially those most historically not engaged in music instruction. With two full time music teachers, the school offers introductory and advanced music, music appreciation, chorus, strings and more! Parkside currently offers Mandarin and Spanish as well as Art and Leadership Class. The school also houses a first of its kind Media and Arts Pathway dedicated to supporting Pacific Islander students. The school also participates in Unity Days and other activities to create a positive climate on campus.
The Position
Parkside Middle School is hiring its next leader. The school is looking for a leader committed to equitable outcomes for all students, a leader excited to interact with our students and staff every day. The next Parkside Middle School Principal will be a:
Communicator-Willing and able to communicate to all stakeholders in a clear and timely fashion about both short term needs and long term plans
Creator and Innovator-Exploring and implementing new and different ways to engage students and families in their learning experiences
Critical Thinker-Able to analyze challenges and articulate key issues and solutions
Collaborator-Excited to dive deep into shared spaces of learning and growth with educators and staff at all levels of experience and commitment
Compassionate Educator-Ready to demonstrate awareness and sensitivity in order to connect with others’ feelings, experiences, perspectives and culture
The next leader will be resilient in the face of constant challenge as leading a middle school is a complex endeavor involving daily interactions between students, staff, parents, district and community on a daily basis. District leaders are fully aware of the need for strong district support and have continued to add additional resources and time to Parkside. With additional mental health resources, campus safety and climate personnel, English Learner support and monthly professional learning, San Bruno Park has made a firm commitment to ensure students and staff can thrive at Parkside.
The next leader at Parkside will be a community ambassador sharing and championing the school and its programs throughout San Bruno. The community takes pride in its school and the next leader will share the many highlights of the school with the community while also honestly sharing the challenges the school is facing.
The next leader will take strong leadership in the areas of student climate and culture. Building on the success of unity days, student leadership, phone pouches, trips and performances, the next leader will be absolutely committed to student safety with strong boundaries for students while also creating positive student to student relationships filled with joy, laughter and love.
The next leader will take an active role in the continued upgrade of the school facilities. With major upgrades to the gymnasium, multipurpose room, stage, quad and outdoor spaces, the next leader will help shape future facilities designs including a new state of the art music, art and science center to be constructed over the next five years.
The next leader will be part of a dedicated leadership team made up of four other district Principals who have significant voice in the major decisions of the district.
