As the Technology Services Officer you will report to the Associate Superintendent of Operations and be a senior leader in our district. You will lead the district’s key initiatives to plan, develop, implement and oversee SFUSD’s information systems that serve all schools and departments. SFUSD is currently engaged in an ambitious and comprehensive multi-year effort to expand and improve technology capabilities, and technology is increasingly becoming a linchpin to achieving our district’s strategic goals. The TSO will play the lead role in designing and driving the district’s technology agenda.
We expect our Technology Services Officer to:
Articulate a compelling vision for the Information Technology Department and lead the implementation of SFUSD’s “Digital District” plan, which comprehensively describes our technology vision as well as the resources needed to bring it to life.
Direct the day-to-day operations and work processes of SFUSD’s Information Technology Department, including network and infrastructure, telecommunications, applications, help desk and desktop support, project management and document publishing.
Collaborate with Curriculum and Instruction and other departments to design and implement investments, strategies and applications in instructional technology.
Develop and implement a strong talent strategy for the IT Department, including attracting, developing and motivating staff.
Recruit and engage strategic external partners, drawing on the unique innovation and technology hub in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Perform other related duties.
The strongest candidates will have:
Deep knowledge of information technology in a K-12 context, including familiarity with all major domains (applications, network/infrastructure, user support, instructional technology, project management)
Knowledge of San Francisco’s public schools and/ or urban public schools
A proven record of effectively planning, organizing and using resources to take action
Success leading effective teams and individuals
Ability to work effectively across multiple functions and roles within a complex organization
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to convey complex information to a variety of audiences (e.g., large groups, staff meetings, executive briefings, public board meetings, memos)
A strong record of managing organizational change and initiating key innovations
Strong analytic and systems thinking necessary to interpret data to inform goals and strategy
A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, business administration, education or a related field
Ten (10) years management experience, five (5) of which were as a senior manager in a technology-related role
Substitution: Education requirement may be substituted for additional professional-level experience on a year-for-year basis.
