Organizational Background: The Sacramento Educational Cable Consortium (SECC) is a unique 501C3 nonprofit collaboration of the K-20 education community all working together toward the mission of enhancing the quality of the educational experiences and resources in the Sacramento Community through effective use of educational media.
Position Overview: The Executive Director, reporting to the Board of Directors, has the vision, initiative, and leadership to guide the consortium, it’s members and the community in implementing the current mission while anticipating future and ever-changing needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Liaison: • Oversees daily operations of SECC, providing direction for program strategies and efficiencies, compliance, and quality assurance. • Responsible for the planning, organization, budgeting, and directing of the organization’s operations and programs. • Develops annual program plan and budget to achieve membership goals and objectives. • Identifies and implements staffing requirements for efficient operation. • Maintains a strong work culture that attracts and retains exemplary staff. • Oversees finance, budgeting, operations, human resources, labor laws, insurance (employee as well as business needs), contracts and leases.
Financial Management: • Maintains and expands a diverse funding base (corporate support, grants, membership dues, cost recovery opportunities). • Creates and oversees annual budget. • Oversees annual financial reviews. • Understands various funding sources and restricted funds. • Coordinates annual 401k deposit approval and filing. • Manages annual tax filings.
Cable Commission: • Oversees the general management and support of the Sacramento County dark fiber network that connects all SECC K-12 member educational institutions together with the support of the Sacramento County Office of Education (Cable Commission). • Maintains positive relationships with all partners (Members, Cable Commission, Cable Companies, and vendors who support the network). • Tracks fiscal operations and long-term contracts ensuring continued support and access. • Troubleshoots district challenges with agreements or projects. • Acts as liaison between districts, Sonlight and Cable Companies. • Implements renewal contracts, when applicable.
Other Responsibilities: • Oversees all aspects of a small, nonprofit organization. • Leads and motivates a diverse team. • Communicates clearly and effectively. • Oversees strategic and operational efficiencies of programs and staff. • Understands the many facets of media in schools including students acting as creators of media as well as understanding the power and responsibility of media. • Understands and effectively engages in the political landscape of local cities, the county and educational leadership. • Identifies and engages diverse groups to create cohesive and cooperative environments for collaboration on mutual goals and objectives. • Possesses a passion for making a difference and helping SECC achieve its goals and mission. • Ability to follow specific directions to resolve customer issues. • Regular, predictable attendance is required. • Ability to get along and work effectively with others.
Other Skills and Abilities: • Proven experience as executive director or other managerial position. • Possess an analytical mind capable of “out-of-the-box” thinking to solve problems. • Experience in developing and managing budgets. • Exceptional verbal, written, and visual communication skills. • Experience in public relations, marketing, and fundraising. • Knowledge of leadership and management principles for nonprofit organizations. • Proven success working with a Board of Directors. • Entrepreneurial mindset, with innovative approach to business planning. • Dynamic and charismatic team player who enjoys being the public face of an organization. • Excellent communication (oral and written) and public speaking skills.
Education and/or Experience: • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university in business, human resources, or another related field. • Seven or more years of experience in senior management, preferably with nonprofit organizations.
Availability: • Full-Time • Business hours are typically M-F. As an exempt employee, you may be required to work in excess of 40 hours per week and outside of normal hours.
Compensation: $120,000/annually; plus Benefits, Vacation, Sick Leave and Holidays.
