Position Description for Antioch Unified School District, Antioch, California
The Antioch Unified School District Boardof Education is seeking an effective leader and fully qualified superintendent. The Board wishes to have the successful candidate assume the responsibilities of the position on July 1, 2025.
McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C., Executive Recruitment and Development, in collaboration with the California School Boards Association, has been engaged as the consultant in a search for outstanding candidates. They will assist the Board of Education in identifying and screening the candidates.

Qualifications:
The candidate must have the background, skills, and abilities essential for excellence in educational leadership. The board recognizes that selecting a superintendent is one of the most important decisions it will make. The board desires candidates that have a proven ability and demonstrated accomplishments for the following position criteria:
Equity Leader: The superintendent is an equity-driven leader with the moral compass and courage to make decisions through a clear equity lens. Passionate yet emotionally intelligent, this leader demonstrates intention and systems thinking, using both quantitative and qualitative data, research, and best practices to address educational equity gaps. With a proven track record, the superintendent has effectively interrupted predicable systemic equity barriers, including those linked to the school-to-prison pipeline, opportunity gaps for English learners, and achievement disparities for historically marginalized student groups. As a culturally proficient leader, they value diverse cultures and ensure resources are allocated based on students’ individual needs to help them reach their full academic and social potential. The superintendent actively works to strategically dismantle policies, practices, and structures that perpetuate institutional oppression, while bringing others along in the journey toward equity. As a true champion for all scholars, they are relentlessly committed to pursuing equitable opportunities and outcomes for every scholar.

Student Centered Leader
The next superintendent reimagines student success by placing students at the heart of decision-making. This leader empowers and involves students, families, staff, and the community to collaboratively achieve outcomes that benefit all scholars. They will articulate a vision that sets high expectations for the brilliant scholars of AUSD while maintaining academic rigor that drives strong academic results. With a focus on the whole child, the superintendent will support programs that nurture physical health, social-emotional well-being, and the creative development of our scholars. The superintendent will promote active student engagement and differentiated instruction, giving students opportunities to demonstrate mastery while engaging in extracurricular activities that support their dreams and aspirations. Working closely with the Board, the superintendent will develop, implement, and monitor district policies that foster optimal student success through both traditional and non-traditional metrics, including quantitative data as well as qualitative feedback from student listening sessions, observations, and surveys. Recognizing that AUSD students demonstrate achievement in diverse ways, the superintendent will provide opportunities for students to take ownership of their learning, access resources, and pursue both academic and life success.
Communicator and collaborator:
The superintendent is a skilled communicator and collaborator who listens thoughtfully to multiple perspectives before making decisions. With strong verbal, written, and digital communication skills, this leader is accessible to all, including those with differing opinions, and actively engages in transparent and purposeful communication.
