The Associate General Counsel serves as a key legal advisor for the Sacramento County Office of Education, providing expert legal counsel under the direction of the General Counsel. In this role, you will render legal opinions, conduct research, and draft policies while representing the County Office at various meetings and proceedings. You will contribute directly to the legal foundation that enables our organization to effectively serve students, schools, and communities throughout Sacramento County.
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities; a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school; license to practice law in the State of California with preferred experience in educational administration and/or school and labor laws, industrial relations, public administration and business administration and increasingly responsible experience in educational administration.
Candidates should demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of legal principles and practices, including civil, criminal, constitutional, contract, employment, administrative, and business law; California Education Code and related Administrative and Government Codes; and methods of legal research. Key abilities include interpreting applicable federal and state laws; conducting research and organizing complex material; formulating recommendations and proposals; preparing effective written and oral reports; developing positive relationships with the Board of Education, Personnel Commission, management, and employee organizations; and analyzing relationships among complex data.
The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) is one of 58 county offices of education in California. SCOE staff work year-round, providing services that complement and supplement those offered by public school districts in Sacramento County. SCOE provides technical assistance, curriculum and instructional support, staff development, financial advice, and oversight to Sacramento County school districts.
