Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Business Services plan, develop, implement, direct, review, and evaluate the programs and activities in the Information Systems and Technology Services department relating to data management, district-wide computing and network resources, and use of electronic equipment, software, and computer peripherals.
TYPICAL DUTIES
Plan and direct the activities in the Technology Services Department relating to: the development, implementation, management, and on-going evaluation of the district-wide network infrastructure, telephony, voicemail, video, and data communications.
Provide for cabling, network configuration, file server configuration, setup and troubleshooting as necessary.
Direct the development and maintenance of all data systems, including feasibility studies, systems analysis and design, computer programming, conversion of data, information storage and retrieval management data controls.
Oversee the district administrative, human resources, financial and student information systems.
Provide for application training to end-users and technical training for technicians in the areas of computer hardware, peripherals, and software.
Oversee, develop, and implement systems which provide information sharing and data integration within the District’s disparate systems and between other educational facilities, outside agencies, the state of California and the federal government. As needed, perform a variety of operational services, including installation of equipment, network support and user support.
Establish district-wide policies, standards, practices and security measures to assure the integrity and reliability of computerized information, communications and systems.
Develop, implement, and maintain disaster recovery and physical security procedures.
Ensure information technology security, training, programming, data collection, and report generation activities meet the needs of the district and its educational and business operations.
Meet and consult with division and school administrators on the development, maintenance, and effectiveness of data applications; develop and maintain effective communication and working relationships with administrative divisions and schools.
Assist in the development and maintenance of the district technology plan.
Plan and develop department goals and objectives to ensure the technology-related mission and goals of the district are realized.
Review and evaluate products, methods, and procedures, and evaluate plan effectiveness, time lines, and employee performance. Forecast needs and requirements. Evaluate, negotiate, and aid in the writing of bid specifications for the development and/or purchase of all administrative hardware/software solutions. Develop and administer technology department budget and district technology plan budgets.
Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; interview and select employees and recommend transfers, reassignment, termination and disciplinary actions; plan, coordinate and arrange for appropriate training of subordinates.
Perform other related duties as assigned. Manage information technology projects funded through various sources (i.e. bonds, State and Federal grants, E-Rate dollars).
Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent, including coursework in computer science, information systems and business and/or related areas of study. Five years of experience in managing an IT service department, preferably with at least 2500 end-users, including the planning, implementing and supporting Microsoft-based server platforms and Cisco or HP/Aruba-based LAN, WAN, and Wi-Fi systems, or comparable routers/switching system components.
At least three years of experience in a middle management technology supervisory position in a school district or county office of education is highly desirable.
Knowledge of and experience with computer software including Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, Microsoft Active Directory, and Microsoft Hyper-V technologies is highly desirable.
Equivalency Provision: Five years of director or higher-level experience, requiring independent planning and implementation of organization-wide information technology systems for an organization with at least 15,000 end-users, may be used to substitute for the educational requirement.
Licenses and/or Certificates: Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Engineer (CCNE),Microsoft 365 Certified Enterprise Administrator Expert, and Microsoft Certified Azure Solutions Architect Expert or Microsoft Certified Designing Microsoft Azure Infrastructure Solutions certificates are highly desirable. Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license and use of an automobile or proof of an equivalent mode of personal transportation is required.
