The San Benito County Office of Education’s (SBCOE) Alternative School programs serve students from grades 7-12. Encompassing Opportunity, Continuation, Community school and programs for incarcerated youth, the Alternative Schools serve approximately 150 students from within San Benito County.
The Alternative School Principal serves as the chief educational and climate leader, responsible for the organization, supervision, and operation of the school's program. This role is dedicated to creating a safe, supportive, and positive learning environment for students who may not thrive in traditional educational settings due to a variety of challenges, including academic struggles, behavioral issues, or personal circumstances. The principal will provide instructional leadership, manage school operations and resources, and foster effective community relations to ensure all students receive the academic and emotional support needed for success.
Our Continuation High School was recently designated as a Model Continuation School. SBCOE seeks a dynamic leader who is committed to advancing and sustaining the growth of our alternative programs so that we can ensure high quality academic and emotional support services to all students.
Education: A Master's degree in Educational Administration or related field.
Experience: A minimum of five years of successful teaching experience, preferably in an alternative education setting, and at least two years of administrative or supervisory experience is desirable.
Licensure: Must possess a valid state-issued administrative license or credential (e.g., California Administrative Services Credential).
Skills: Demonstrated leadership, decision-making, communication, and interpersonal skills. Must have strategic planning and problem-solving abilities, with a solid understanding of curriculum, special education law, and budget management.
Other: A valid driver's license and successful completion of a criminal justice fingerprint clearance/background check are required.
