General Description

The Johns Hopkins University (JHU) School of Education (SOE) invites applications for a promotion-track faculty position, with a start date of August 1, 2023.

Faculty positions are housed within the Department of Advanced Studies in Education. Primary teaching responsibilities will involve the Doctor of Education (EdD) program, with potential for affiliation with the school's six research centers and teaching opportunities in other programs.

The JHU EdD program is a highly selective, mature program with dynamic, diverse students recruited nationally and internationally from across the educational spectrum. The program has recently undergone a faculty-led review and reorganization. Areas of specialization within the program include Entrepreneurial Leadership in Education; Mind, Brain, and Teaching; Critical Studies in Education; and Learning Technologies.  

As one of nine academic units that comprise Johns Hopkins University, a globally recognized and productive research institution, the highly ranked School of Education is poised to make investments in scholars, researchers, and clinicians capable of reforming 21st-century education and strengthening communities. SOE graduate programs seek to develop the knowledge, skills, and dispositions of students as they lead efforts to build new opportunities in varied educational contexts. Through multidisciplinary lenses, SOE educates leaders who will promote innovation in the paradigms, strategies, values, and cultures of their individual professional contexts. The goal is to provide powerful graduate educational experiences in an environment of entrepreneurship and innovation.

The faculty position is Entrepreneurial Leadership in Education (Assistant or Associate Clinical Professor). Candidates for this position should have experience in teaching and research with a focus on entrepreneurial leadership.  Candidates preferred with experience in leading educational organizations, university programs/Centers, government agencies, or NGOs, and a grounding in social justice frameworks. Candidates who have experience leading schools, districts, and/or innovative school reform efforts welcomed.

Qualifications

All candidates must have a doctorate in education or a related field. Applicants need to provide evidence of the following competencies and interests: (1) effective university teaching at the graduate level for practitioner-scholars, (2) strong skills in mentoring and advising doctoral students, (3) effective collaboration skills, (4) commitment to social justice, (5) scholarly productivity and knowledge of multiple research methodologies, and (6) expertise in research design appropriate to support excellent practitioner-scholar doctoral research.

The ideal candidates will be equity-oriented and reform-minded, have experience working in educational settings and organizations, and have experience or interest in applying educational research in professional environments.

Desired qualifications include: (1) experience translating academic research into practice and policy; (2) experience teaching in online learning contexts; (3) expertise in qualitative or mixed-methods research; and (4) experience teaching or advising students to conduct practitioner-focused research.

Ideally, this will include outcomes or deliverables.
