The Director of Equity and Improvement is directly responsible to the Associate Superintendent, Learning Support Services, and provides oversight and support for the implementation of Poway Unified School District’s Comprehensive Plan for Prioritizing Racial Equity and Inclusion.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
1. Plans, organizes and supports equity focused professional learning for all staff in alignment with the Racial Equity and Inclusion Plan.
2. Develops high leverage approaches to professional development for the purpose of improving staff’s capacity to deliver on the district’s racial equity goals
3. Facilitates parent and community meetings focused on racial equity and inclusion in order to foster relational trust and improvement efforts.
4. Develops, coordinates, and facilitates Poway Unified School District’s Equity Advisory that includes representatives from all school sites.
5. Collaborates with school leaders, departments, and staff to organize improvement efforts focused on racial equity and inclusion.
6. Coordinates equity improvement surveys for staff, students and families to monitor efforts to create healthy, safe and positive learning environment.
7. Oversees and guides the implementation and evaluation of the Racial Equity Policy Implementation Plan for the purpose of continuous improvement and course correction as needed.
8. Prepares a wide variety of materials for the purpose of documenting activities and issues, meeting compliance requirements, and/or providing supporting materials for requested actions.
9. Supervises the Data and Assessment Team to provide guidance for all local, state, and federal testing requirements.
10. Coordinates all areas of assessment, data collection, disaggregation, analysis, data usage, and evaluation throughout the district for the purpose of alignment towards the racial equity goals.
11. Employs best practices in change management and organizational development for the purpose of supporting the culture and climate of the district and antiracism efforts.
12. Collaborates with district leadership to review systems and processes to ensure they are equitable and align with racial equity improvement efforts.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:
KNOWLEDGE of issues relating to diversity, cultural proficiency, and equity policy; local, state, and federal laws related to schools, employment, and protected classes; demonstrated success as a strong visionary leader; project management principles and procedures; program review, student learning outcomes, and service area evaluation processes.
ABILITY to design and implement effective equity programs and professional development, gather, research, and analyze data for use in improvement efforts and reporting in order to meet federal and state requirements; serve as a liaison between educators and diverse cultural groups; exercise diplomacy when interacting with educators and community members; promote commitment to a climate of equity and inclusion; maintain a high level of confidentiality; communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
EXPERIENCE: A record of successful teaching experience and a minimum of four (4) years of increasingly responsible and successful experience in an administrative position, preferably including experience as a site principal.
EDUCATION/CREDENTIALS: A minimum of Master’s Degree and possession of a California administrative services credential is required.
The Poway Unified School District is located in northern San Diego County, California. PUSD operates 25 elementary schools (K-5), one elementary & middle school combination (TK-8th), six middle schools (6-8), one continuation high school, five comprehensive high schools (9-12), and one adult school. Twenty-six schools are located in the city of San Diego; twelve schools in the city of Poway. The District serves approximately 35,500 students and is the third largest school district in the county.
