ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL, SECONDARY

at the secondary level as they become available:
Intermediate School and High School
Position Description:
The Assistant Principal is part of a dynamic administrative/leadership team that works in collaboration to provide leadership, supervision, and evaluation of school activities and programs. Under the direction of the Principal, the Assistant Principal shares responsibilities in areas of instructional program; curriculum development; supervision and evaluation of staff; counseling and guidance; student discipline and extra-curricular activities; plant maintenance and operations.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Participate in development and evaluation of educational programs.
Foster and support a positive, caring climate for learning.
Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Assist in development of campus improvement plans with administrators, staff, parents, and community members.
Develop, maintain, and use information systems to maintain and records to track progress on campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.
Support and evaluate classified and certificated employees.
Assist in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff.
Supervise plant maintenance and operations.
Facilitate and create the development of master schedule.
Facilitate, create schedules, and monitor and supervise extracurricular activities.
Supervise reporting and monitoring of student attendance and address attendance issues.
Assist with safety inspections and safety-drill practice activities.
Coordinate transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other support services.
Ensure that students are adequately supervised during non-instructional periods.
Support, facilitate, and implement a Positive Behavior Intervention and Support system, including restorative practices.
Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed, and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
Conduct conferences on student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.
Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.
Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.

Required Qualifications:
Appropriate California credential Administrative Services Credential
Master's Degree
Five (5) years minimum of teaching experience
Appropriate training and/or prior leadership experience

Effective facilitation, planning, and organization skills.
Effective communication skills: listening, speaking, and written.

The Newport-Mesa Unified School District (NMUSD) includes nearly 59 square miles and is comprised of the cities of Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, and Corona del Mar, California.
