We are seeking an Assistant Director of Outreach and Community Engagement in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions who will be responsible for developing the K-12 pipeline to Johns Hopkins University across the Greater Baltimore and DC area. This will include the development of key programs and cultivating internal and external partnerships.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Develop on-campus programs exposing low-income, first-generation students to the college admissions process.
Collaborate across the Johns Hopkins University network to identify organizations working with K-12 students.
Develop relationships with local K-12 organizations.
Represent JHU at local off-campus events.
Develop workshops and professional development for counselors and nonprofit leaders.
Conduct daily information sessions and respond to routine requests from prospective applicants.
Recruitment planning for a designated geographic region(s).
Conduct high school visits, events, and other meetings with various constituent groups.
Eight to ten weeks of travel and evening/weekend work required; and conducting off-campus university events and high school visits for prospective students, families, and high school guidance/college counselors.
Review and evaluate applications.
Leverage basic data analysis to inform programming.
Manage internal and external relationships: Faculty, counselors, prospective students and families, current students, university administrators, high school counselors, alumni.
Special Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities
Must be service and team-oriented and aware of the needs and concerns of a selective private university.
Position requires the ability to communicate effectively with prospective students, parents, secondary school counselors, faculty, and other university partners, as well as the ability to represent Johns Hopkins University to the public.
Detail-oriented and organized.
Strong written abilities.
Ability to communicate effectively with priority stakeholders.
Track record of program development.
Knowledgeable of challenges facing urban school districts.
Knowledge of standard office software applications: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Ability to travel extensively and work nights and weekends as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree.
Three years of related experience.
Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in higher education, nonprofit, or school district preferred.
