The Cold Spring Harbor Central School District is seeking an Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources to begin on or about September 1, 2026. They are looking for an out-standing and visionary educational leader, who will provide strong leadership in the area of human resources.
The Cold Spring Harbor Central School District, comprised of approximately 1600 students, consists of one primary school, two elementary schools, and one junior/senior high school. It offers a diversified educational program with exciting learning opportunities at all grade levels.
Located on Long Island’s north shore, the district serves both Nassau and Suffolk counties. Most residents are college graduates who are active in their professional and business communities and support a rich program of academic offerings and co-curricular activities. Cold Spring Harbor’s open enrollment policy provides a setting where students are encouraged to challenge themselves.
The academic emphasis is college preparatory, and the breadth of the curriculum is evident in the availability of numerous courses emphasizing skills development and enrichment, as well as honors, Advanced Placement and elective offerings across all curricular areas. The school’s proximity to the famed Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory enables a unique partnership that offers expanded science research opportunities to students.
Cold Spring Harbor High School has been ranked by U.S. News and World Report (2025) as No. 1 in Suffolk County and No. 6 on Long Island among public high schools. Individual students, along with the district’s academic, athletic, artistic and extracurricular programs, are repeatedly recognized for outstanding achievements and successes.
Ideally the candidate should have school district experience, preferably as a central office Human Resources administrator. Moreover, the successful candidate must possess NYS Certification as a School District Leader (SDL) or School District Administrator (SDA).
The successful candidate will be:
A personable and approachable team player with experience working in a small school district and who is familiar with managing a wide range of office responsibilities related to the area of human resources operations for instructional and civil service personnel;
A knowledgeable school district administrator with demonstrated experience working in the human resources area and who understands the importance of how personnel management helps to support the educational process.
A skilled communicator who is detailed orientated with strong organizational and interpersonal skills suited to a small school district who can clearly and specifically disseminate information regarding the human resources policies and procedures expected by New York State Laws and developed by the Board of Education.
A collaborative individual who welcomes input from all, creates trust among co-workers, works in partnership with the Superintendent, and has supervisory knowledge and skills.
A visible and welcoming individual with strong problem-solving skills, an ability to be flexible and create alternative solutions to unexpected situations/events, as well as proficient in responding to requests and inquiries in a timely manner.

School Leadership, LLC was founded in 2004 and since that time has assisted more than 130 New York, New Jersey and Connecticut school boards in the recruitment and selection of new superintendents. Its President is Dr. Charles Fowler, who served as a superintendent for 35 years in four states; he is assisted by 20 associates who are also former superintendents, board members, university professors, and state level administrators.
