About the District and School Community
KTJUSD is a small, rural district distinguished by strong relationships, collaboration, and deep community connections. Approximately 95% of the district’s students identify as Native American, with many connected to the Hupa, Yurok, and Karuk Tribes, whose cultures and histories are foundational to the region. The district honors these cultural roots while maintaining an inclusive environment that welcomes and supports all students and families.
Hoopa Valley High School serves students who travel from communities throughout the region via Highways 299, 96, and 169, making it a central hub for surrounding towns. Staff members live both locally and in neighboring communities such as Eureka, Arcata, McKinleyville, Blue Lake, and Willow Creek, commuting daily to Hoopa. While larger amenities, including Costco, are located in Eureka, the district is supportive in helping new administrators explore housing opportunities in Willow Creek and Hoopa, when available.
Situated along the Trinity River, Hoopa Valley offers exceptional natural beauty, strong cultural traditions, and a deeply meaningful opportunity to serve students in a close-knit, relationship-centered community.
Why Apply?
This is a rare opportunity to lead a high school at the heart of a culturally rich and historically significant community. The successful candidate will join a supportive district leadership team and a school community where relationships matter, leadership is visible, and the work has a lasting impact on students’ lives.
